East Anglian Championship review

Sunday 10th April saw a slightly disappointing entry of 18 cars in the pits for the East Anglian Championship which was reduced to 17 racing when Shaun Brooker's engine blew up in practice.

Heat 1 got underway with Jack Hughes in front and building up a useful lead. Moving through quickly however was Martin Coles, Steven Jackson and Mark Smith. Ryan Eaton found himself in the wrong direction on the caister bend, as Mark Smith retired when moving up to the top positions. With less than 5 laps left Coles had caught Hughes and went past to take the win. Steven Jackson got a good second followed by Hughes, Wesbroom and Aylward.
Heat 2 saw Hughes leading again but not for long this time as Brett Wesbroom was on a flyer from the blues, and Alex Meadows was looking much better too. Wesbroom took the lead but moving through the pack in fine style was world champ Colin Aylward. As they entered 5 laps to go Wesbrooms lead was still good however Chopper was really flying and taking big chunks out of the gap every lap. It took until the last bend before Chopper was close enough to land a blow on the 540 car, and a good enough hit saw him take the flag, Wesbroom took the hit well and recovered for second followed by a fairly quick looking Ben Marjoram.
The Final had only just got going when a pile of cars went in on the caister bend which included Jackson and Lambert amongst others, and although they sorted themselves out, Chris Capon found the post on the exit of the bend on lap 6 to bring out a stoppage to recover the car and driver who seemed to be shaken up, and hopefully that's all he was. The crash had allowed Chopper and Mark Smith to get pretty close to the front end and it wasn't long before they found themselves first and second. Choppers lead was too much for Smith to pull in and Garry Sparkes was making sure Mark's mirrors were full of his purple car in third. So Chopper took the flag and with it his first East Anglian Championship, Mark Smith had a good result in second followed by Sparkes, Marjoram, Coles and Ryan Eaton.
