Yarmouth 24th July

Report by Duncan Adams

Heat 1 (18 cars)
18 cars lined up for heat 1 on a dry track and sunny evening at Yarmouth. No whites meant
the 4 yellows were first away and 167 led into the first corner from 279. 176 pushed 57 into a
spin on lap 2, and 279 took the lead. 517 moved up to 2nd on lap 4 and further back 60, 17
and 376 were all making good progress. 376 hit 4 hard and took the place and then 60 and 7
tangled coming out of the Caister bend and ended up in the fence. The yellows came out
while they were removed just as 517 took the lead.
On the restart 60, 7 and also 426 were missing and 517 led 279, 167, 114, 21, 376, 176, 4,
161, 17, 69, 612. 114 took to the infield to mow some grass as he crossed the line but
otherwise the restart was uneventful.several laps later, and 376 pushed 279 wide and took
2nd whilst further back 612 and 233 were having a great scrap changing position almost
every bend. 517 pulled off with a broken finger spring and 161 appeared to be slowing . 57
and 176 got stuck together on the Caister bend whilst 376 took up the running with 3 laps to
go. 69 was now 2nd and slowly closing in, but time ran out and 376 took the win.
Result: 376, 69, 279, 21, 17, 167, 540, 4, 223, 612

Heat 2 (16 cars)
60 and 7 were missing from heat 2. Glen had hurt his shoulder and Ben was still repairing
the damage from the trip they took to the fence. At the green flag 17 got a poor start as 279
and 114 led the way. 4 retired with a broken half shaft. Further back 612 had made a
stunning start and 69 had followed him through. By Lap 5 279 still led 114, 57, 517, 167, 426
and 69 was looking very strong having passed 612 and 376. On lap 10 69 took 5th and 612
seemed to be struggling. The first 5 were now well clear of the rest and the field was well
strung out. 517 took 2nd and 161 retired. 69 pushed 517 wide for 2nd but 279 had half a
straight lead with 5 laps to go. At the 3 lap board 69 was only 3 lengths behind, and a last
bend lunge saw him just catch 279 for the win.
Result: 69, 279, 517, 57, 114, 376, 426, 17, 612, 21

Final (16 Cars)
60 was back out for the final but 612 had loaded up with low oil pressure. The Clutch start
saw 167 lead 279 into the first bend. Further back 376 and 17 had both made excellent
starts. 57 took the lead on lap 3 but 279 and 176 got into a tangle on the pit bend and the
yellows came out while they were removed from the post and wire.
On the restart the order was 57, 114, 517, 426, 376, 17, 161, 69, 60, 21, 4, 233, 540. As the
pace car pulled off 57 got a good jump and soon 376 pushed 426 wide for 4th and 517
pushed 114 wide for 2nd. By lap 10 57 still led from 376, 17, 69, 60, 161, 233, & 21, The race
settled down with 376 slowly catching 57 but on Lap 18 the yellows were out again as 114
heavily fenced 21 backwards into the Caister bend wire. I’m not going to suggest it may have
been deliberate, but  114 had to reverse out of 21 who took a very large hit indeed.
Fortunately Sean was soon out of the car and apparently unhurt.
The restart order was 57, 376, 69, 60, 17, 161, 233, 4, 540, 517, 426. It didn’t take 376 long
to get past 57 and 233 was having a good fight with 161 until 233 was fenced! 69 took 2nd
and 60 was 3rd with about 5 to go. 517 retired and 540 tangled with 4 on the pit bend. 376
had a couple of poor laps which saw 69 go through and then 60 and this is how they
finished.
Result: 69, 60, 376, 17, 57, 161, 4, 540, 233

Le Mans Start race (9 cars)
After the carnage of the final only 9 cars came out to play for this 4th race. 114 had been
loaded up by the steward and several others had not had enough time to repair the damage
received. For those who haven’t seen the Supers do a Le Mans start I will explain. The
drivers are belted into their cars and each has a runner who runs to the car and sticks a
sticker onto the driver which allows him to pull away and race. All entertaining it was obvious
to me that 17 was going to be first into the corner as his driver had the shortest distance to
run by far. Pop Meadows was runner for 176 which gave the commentator something to chat
about and was duly given a head start.
As the flag dropped 17 easily got into the corner first followed by 161, 167, 176, 69 and 426.
On lap 2 69 was making good progress whilst 4 and 176 collided on the back straight and
both retired. By lap 5 17 had a very nice lead from 161, 69, & 376. 69 pushed 161 wide and
took the place on the Caister bend but 161 returned the favour on the pit bend allowing 376
to close right up. They changed position again on the Caister bend and 376 took 161 too. On
the pit bend, the bumpers flew, and 69 and 376 found themselves in the fence and retired
while 161 was passed by 233, who set about catching 17. However 17 was way ahead. 57
and 167 had a good battle for a few laps with 57 just getting ahead 2 laps from the end.
Result: 17, 233, 161, 57, 167, 426,

Summary
A good evening’s racing, especially if you sell spares! Lots of action and obviously some
scores settled or tempers frayed.  161 did well to overcome lots of engine problems to get 2nd
in the Le Mans, and 57 did well from the lower grades. 176 & 4 will likely want to forget the
meeting and move on to the next one asap. 69 made the most of 51 not being present, and
scored some useful points to help close the gap. 21 will likely need a radox bath tonight and
114 may take a 3 month holiday.

Superstox.org.uk says: Thanks Duncan for the great report. Was a pretty good meeting despite the low car turn out. Brooker's new car looks very quick, Eddie Edmonds and Billy Smith provided the entertainment and it was really good to see Ryan Eaton get a win in the last race and some kind of reward for his traveling efforts.

Shaun Brooker's new Colin Higman car looked quick all day
Ben Marjoram took second in the final
Jack Hughes showed up well
Eddie Edmonds provided the entertainment in the final
Heat 1 winner Steven Jackson
Sean Smiths car looked good at the start of the meeting!
