Here is our top 10 for who we think stands the real chance this Saturday plus a few more who we couldn't quite rule out.
60 Ben Marjoram - Defending Champion
Ben loves championships and is good at winning them, in fact its not often you don't see some kind of championship roof on the 60 car, but if he looses this one there wont be any, maybe this will be enough to spur him on? Ben has cut down his racing this year but is still showing he is one of the best out there when he does race, as top 3 finishes in all his races at Yarmouth last time shows. Ipswich is probably not his best track, but make no mistake, Ben will be quick and keen enough with the front bumper to put himself in contention.
51 Colin Aylward
The World Champion has not been collecting those roofs yet this year, but his final win at Eastbourne last time out proves that has nothing to do with performance. Where as Ipswich probably isn't Marjoram's best track, i would say it is Chopper's, he currently leads the track points and of course won the tracks last major championship here last year. Its becoming unknown for a championship result not to feature the 51 number near the top end, and i expect nothing different on Saturday.
177 Stuart Gilchrist
This will be an interesting moment for Stuart and everyone else for that matter, we know he is good and we know he can beat the best on Scottish soil, but can he keep up on the English tracks? My guess is yes, Stuart is not the kind of guy who would travel down to Ipswich if he didn't think he had some kind of chance, and he knows enough about racing to make sure he has. I'm pretty sure Gilky will feature at some point and depending on his grid position, has every chance of adding another roof to his car.
69 Shaun Brooker
2 wins and 2 seconds in the first 4 finals raced in his new car shows that its quick, very quick and although these have all come at Yarmouth, i imagine the car will be good for Saturday. Shaun sometimes lacks the killer instinct at the domestic meetings but is perfectly capable of turning it on for the big ones, he needs a major win, and more importantly, a European, its been 18 years since his last!
482 Jason Cooper
As Jason sits on top of the National Hot Rod points chart, he still cant shake off the formula that he has loved so much over the years. Twice a winner of this Title, making it three would put him a joint third in all time European wins behind Tony May and Dave Pierce. Jason has only showed up at one meeting in recent weeks, the Southern Championship at Eastbourne ........he won it.
123 Dave Miles Jnr
Dave is a domestic meeting superstar, and you have to feel he is tipping towards the Championship end of the formula, a good finish in this and he might get the taste for it. Dave can be very quick on his day and is perfectly capable of being 'the one that got away'.
233 Ben Munford
Like Dave, Ben is has great showings in the domestics, and can be the quickest out there at times. Needs that Championship break also, nobody will catch him if he breaks free.
612 Garry Sparkes
Currently third in all time European titles with 3 wins, it will take a massive effort from Sparkie to add another on Saturday, the last showing at Yarmouth showed there is still some sorting to do with his new car to get it really on the pace. That said, this is Sparkie, who's to say he wont show up with the old one, master some tricky conditions, and go home with, what at the moment would feel like the drive of his life and the Championship.
7 Glen Salmon
We haven't seen as much of Glen recently as we did earlier in the year, but that doesn't take him out of our top ten, if Glen has the speed, then he will not buckle under Championship pressure, the speed may be the key thing here, maybe Glen would like to appear on a different Championship list other than Worlds!
151 Nick Smith
Its good to see Nick back from his health problems, and although he hasn't raced for a short while, i would imagine he wont take long to get back into it. Nick would probably regard Ipswich to be his best track, he has always performed well here, in a Superstox or a Brisca F1 and currently sits third in the track points.
What About The Rest?
Make no mistake , Superstox racing is not just about 10 drivers nowadays, surprises happen, and with a line up like this one, i certainly wouldn't discount it. Liam Lambert has proved his driving capabilities before and if he finds some speed from somewhere could feature, Sarah Cooper has the speed and could get away and stay there, as could Paul Langridge and Dave Smith. Luud Laurijssen will be a complete unknown, but if he remembers how to survive a tricky Championship like he did in the 1994 World Final, he will do well. Martyn Coles has had a quiet spell recently but has certainly shown he can mix it up if he wants too, and Brett Wesbroom will be rain dancing before the race to give himself the best shot at adding another roof. Dave Miles Snr has an excellent Ipswich record and can be very quick here, but if wanting to win gets results then look no further than Jordan Aylward, he will win by miles!
And just to add a little more excitement to the meeting the support races feature Diggy Smith out in Billy's car and the hard hitting Hot Rodder Carl Pye who has acquired the ex Sean Smith car.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, enjoy Superstox racing at its best.
